Hello!
As this is my first foray into blogging, I think I should start with the term I often hear misused or deliberately avoided:
Amateur.
Sometimes it's used to belittle someone who doesn't do a good job. Other times it's used to describe someone who does something without pay. The term may be accurate in those situations, but it is not the actual source or meaning of the word amateur.
For those of you who paid attention in your Latin class (or Spanish, Italian, French, etc.), you'll notice the word "ama" in there, which refers to love. This is the heart of the word "amateur," which is best defined as "one who loves."
I hope to change that. Here in this blog I'm going to talk about the things that I do only for the love of it. I hope that this exercise will help me appreciate the little things in life, but only time will tell.
